पत्रकारों को अपनी प्रहरी की भूमिका नहीं भूलनी चाहिए-भारत भूषण

देहरादून,। वरिष्ठ पत्रकार एवं ऑनलाइन पोर्टल ‘बारामासा’ के संस्थापक संपादक राहुल कोटियाल को उनकी निष्पक्ष, बेबाक और साहसी पत्रकारिता के लिए चौथे पंडित भैरव दत्त धूलिया पत्रकारिता पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।
कर्मभूमि फाउंडेशन द्वारा प्रदान किए गए इस पुरस्कार में एक लाख रुपये की धनराशि, शॉल और प्रशस्ति पत्र शामिल है।
दून लाइब्रेरी में आयोजित समारोह में वरिष्ठ पत्रकार एवं ‘मेल टुडे’ के संस्थापक संपादक भारत भूषण मुख्य अतिथि रहे।
कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ दीप प्रज्ज्वलन के साथ हुआ।
फाउंडेशन के सचिव कैप्टन हिमांशु धूलिया ने पंडित भैरव दत्त धूलिया के जीवन, स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में उनकी भूमिका तथा ‘कर्मभूमि’ समाचार पत्र के संपादक के रूप में उनके योगदान पर प्रकाश डाला।
कवि एवं सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता लोकेश नवानी ने पत्रकारिता में मिशनरी भावना को बनाए रखने की आवश्यकता पर जोर देते हुए कहा कि मीडिया का दायित्व उन लोगों की आवाज बनना है, जो स्वयं अपनी बात नहीं रख सकते।
इसके बाद कर्मभूमि फाउंडेशन के सचिव हिमांशु धूलिया ने पुरस्कार प्रशस्ति पत्र का वाचन किया और मुख्य अतिथि ने राहुल कोटियाल को सम्मान प्रदान किया।
सम्मान प्राप्त करने के बाद राहुल कोटियाल ने कहा कि यह पुरस्कार उनकी जिम्मेदारी को और बढ़ाता है। उन्होंने स्वतंत्र और ईमानदार पत्रकारिता के सामने मौजूद आर्थिक चुनौतियों का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि आज स्थिति यह हो गई है कि अखबारों के लिए विज्ञापन नहीं, बल्कि विज्ञापनों के लिए अखबार बनाए जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने अपने परिवार और सहयोगियों का भी आभार व्यक्त किया।
मुख्य अतिथि भारत भूषण ने पत्रकारिता में विचारधारा की भूमिका और बदलते मीडिया परिदृश्य पर विस्तार से चर्चा की। उन्होंने कहा कि औपनिवेशिक भारत में पत्रकारिता केवल समाचार देने का माध्यम नहीं थी, बल्कि जनजागरण का भी सशक्त साधन थी। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकारी विज्ञापनों पर निर्भरता मीडिया में आत्म-सेंसरशिप को बढ़ावा देती है। साथ ही उन्होंने इस बात पर बल दिया कि पत्रकारों को अपनी प्रहरी की भूमिका नहीं भूलनी चाहिए तथा समाचार, विश्लेषण और विचार को अलग-अलग रूप में प्रस्तुत किया जाना चाहिए।
अंत में कर्मभूमि फाउंडेशन की अध्यक्ष श्रीमती धूलिया ने सभी अतिथियों और उपस्थित लोगों का आभार व्यक्त किया।
Fourth Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Journalist Award for Rahul Kotiyal
Dehradun, May 19. For his forthright and courageous journalism, Senior journalist and Founding Editor of the online Baramasa, Shri Rahul Kotiyal was awarded the Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Journalist Award, here, today. The Award given by the Karmbhumi Foundation carries a cash incentive of ₹ 1,00,000/-, a shawl and a Certificate of Merit elucidating the honest journalism of the Award Winner. Shri Bharat Bhushan, a Senior Journalist and Founding Editor of ‘Mail Today’ was the Chief Guest for the function.
In an exclusive function arranged at the Doon Library, the evening programme started with the traditional lighting of the lamp before the Secretary of the Foundation, Captain (Indian Navy) Himanshu Dhulia introduced the audience to the life history of Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia, his involvement in the freedom struggle of India and his work as an Editor of Karmbhoomi newspaper.
Subsequently, Shri Lokesh Navani, a poet and social worker started by complementing the work of Karmbhoomi in relighting the missionary zeal which is a necessity in every journalist and the laudable journalistic contribution of Pandit Dhulia. He highlighted that the role of the press is to be the voice of those who are unable to raise their voice.
Captain Dhulia read out the citation that went on to Shri Rahul Kotiyal being selected for the coveted Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Journalism Award after which Shri Kotiyal was honoured with the prestigious Award by the Chief Guest.
Speaking after receiving the Award, Rahul Kotiyal thanked the jury for his selection and that the Award has only added to his responsibility as a journalist. He also expressed his gratitude towards all those who helped him in continuing with the work of Baramasa. He was emphatic about the financial constrains that face honest journalism and his own struggle which would have failed without the support of his family. He also stated that while advertisements should be created to go to newspapers, the reality is that newspapers are being created to get advertisements.
Thereafter. Shri Bhushan, keeping in tune with the occasion spoke on the various dimensions of ideology in journalism. He started by stating that the status of journalism in Colonial India was not only of giving news but to also create an awakening. So they were idealistic in nature. He also explained the understanding of ideology as projected by philosophers from time to time. He also clarified that readership decides the news coverage by the press. Also, the same news may be seen from different angles and use of different words reflect different ideologies. He also drew a vivid picture of the changing face of Indian journalism over the years. Depending on government advertisements, he said, leads to self censorship by the media. Lastly, he emphasised on the need of balance in reporting and journalists should not forget their role as watch dogs and that news, news analysis and opinion should be labelled separately.
Finally, Shrimati Dhulia, the President of the Karmbhoomi Foundation proposed a vote of thanks. She thanked all the speakers and all in the audience and also recollected the very free and frank relation that she had as the daughter-in-law of Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia.
