देहरादून। इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी (IGNFA), में 23वें संजय कुमार सिंह स्मृति दिवस समारोह का आयोजन किया गया। जिसमें भारतीय वन सेवा (आईएसएफ) के शहीद अधिकारी संजय कुमार सिंह के जीवन और बलिदान को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की गई। उन्होंने अपनी ज़िंदगी राष्ट्र की सेवा में और पर्यावरण की रक्षा करते हुए शहीद होकर पिछड़े और वंचित समुदायों की सेवा की।

संजय कुमार सिंह का जन्म 13 सितंबर 1967 को बिहार के सीतामढ़ी जिले के बेलहमी जयराम गाँव में हुआ था । उन्होंने प्रारंभ से ही उत्कृष्ट शैक्षिक प्रदर्शन और सार्वजनिक सेवा के प्रति गहरी प्रतिबद्धता दिखाई। आईआईटी दिल्ली और जेएनयू से शिक्षा प्राप्त करने के बाद, उन्होंने 1991 में भारतीय वन सेवा जॉइन की। जहाँ उन्होंने कठिन परिस्थितियों में भी अद्वितीय साहस और निस्वार्थ सेवा का प्रदर्शन किया।

गढ़वा, हजारीबाग और शाहाबाद (सासाराम) में वन प्रमंडल पदाधिकारी (DFO) के रूप में संजय कुमार सिंह ने पर्यावरण के विनाश और अवैध गतिविधियों, विशेष रूप से अवैध खनन, पत्थर खनन और जंगलों की अतिक्रमण के खिलाफ संघर्ष किया। शाहाबाद, जो अवैध खनन और अतिक्रमण के लिए जाना जाता था, उन्होंने वन संसाधनों का शोषण करने वाले माफिया नेटवर्क के खिलाफ अपनी लड़ाई की शुरुआत की।

11 दिसंबर 2000 को संजय सिंह को सासाराम में वन प्रमंडल पदाधिकारी के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया, जहाँ उन्होंने अवैध खनन माफिया के खिलाफ एक प्रचंड अभियान की शुरुआत की । जीवन को खतरे में डालते हुए, उन्होंने वन भूमि की रक्षा और अतिक्रमित क्षेत्रों की पुनःप्राप्ति के लिए व्यक्तिगत रूप से अभियान का नेतृत्व किया। 30 जनवरी 2002 को, उनकी टीम पर खनन माफिया से प्रभावित एक समूह ने हमला किया, लेकिन उन्होंने साहस के साथ इसका मुकाबला किया और अपनी प्रतिबद्धता को बनाए रखा।

15 फरवरी 2002 को, अपने कर्तव्यों के दौरान संजय कुमार सिंह अवैध खनन माफिया से लड़ते हुए शहीद हो गए। उनका बलिदान पर्यावरण की रक्षा करते हुए, वनों की सुरक्षा, पिछड़े और वंचित समुदायों के अधिकारों के लिए खड़ा रहते हुए हुआ। उनके इस दुखद निधन के चलते देश ने अपना एक जाबाज़ अधिकारी खो दिया , लेकिन उनकी साहस और कर्तव्यों के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता आज भी वन सेवा में काम कर रहे अधिकारियों को प्रेरित करती है।

स्मृति समारोह में संजय कुमार सिंह के माता-पिता, डॉ. घनश्याम नारायण सिंह और डॉ. कांती सिंह, अन्य परिवार के सदस्य और अन्य सम्माननीय व्यक्ति उपस्थित थे। मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में पूर्व आईएएस अधिकारी और बिहार RERA के अध्यक्ष विवेक कुमार सिंह ने कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता की। समारोह में डॉ. जगमोहन शर्मा, निदेशक IGNFA और प्रमुख वन्यजीव एवं पर्यावरण संस्थाओं के प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्ति भी उपस्थित थे।

संजय कुमार सिंह का पर्यावरण संरक्षण और सामाजिक कल्याण के लिए बलिदान उनकी निष्ठा, साहस और ईमानदारी का प्रतीक है। उन्होंने केवल भारत के जंगलों की रक्षा नहीं की, बल्कि अनुसूचित जनजाति और गरीब समुदायों की सामाजिक-आर्थिक स्थिति में भी सुधार किया। यह समारोह उनके अद्वितीय मूल्यों और समाज पर उनके सकारात्मक प्रभाव को याद करने का अवसर था।

विवेक कुमार सिंह ने कहा, “संजय कुमार सिंह का जीवन सार्वजनिक सेवा की सच्ची भावना को दर्शाता है — एक ऐसा जीवन जो ईमानदारी, साहस और राष्ट्र के लोगों और पर्यावरण के लिए समर्पित था।”

संजय कुमार सिंह की धरोहर आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत बनी रहेगी। और भारतीय वन सेवा के अधिकारी, पर्यावरण विशेषज्ञ और नागरिक समाज के कल्याण और भारत के प्राकृतिक संसाधनों की रक्षा के लिए निरंतर काम करेंगे।

Tribute given to the martyred IFS Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh

Dehradun : The 23rd Sanjay Kumar Singh Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony was held today at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun, to honor the life and sacrifices of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, a true martyr who gave his life while serving the nation in his role as a dedicated officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, born on September 13, 1967, in Belhami Jairam village, Sitamarhi, Bihar, demonstrated exceptional academic brilliance and a deep commitment to public service from an early age. After completing his education at IIT Delhi and JNU, he joined the Indian Forest Service in 1991, where he exhibited unmatched courage and resolve in the face of enormous challenges.

As Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Garhwa, Hazaribagh, and Sahabad (Sasaram), Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh took on the responsibility of protecting the environment and fighting against illegal activities, especially illegal mining, stone quarrying, and deforestation. His tenure in Sahabad, known for illegal stone quarrying and encroachment, marked the beginning of his battle against the powerful mafia networks exploiting forest resources.

On December 11, 2000, Shri Singh was posted as DFO in Sasaram, where he initiated a massive operation to dismantle the illegal mining mafia operating in the region. Despite facing significant opposition and threats to his life, he remained undeterred, personally leading operations to protect the forest land and restore encroached areas. His bravery was evident on January 30, 2002, when his team came under attack from a mob influenced by the quarrying mafia. He continued his work with steadfast dedication, even as he faced increasing challenges.

On February 15, 2002, while in the line of duty, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh was martyred while battling the illegal mining mafia. His ultimate sacrifice came while he was defending the environment, protecting the forest, and standing up for the rights of marginalized communities. His tragic death was a profound loss, but his courage and commitment to service continue to inspire generations of forest officers.

The memorial ceremony today was attended by the parents of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Dr. Ghanshyam Narain Singh and Dr. Kanti Singh, along with other family members. Shri Vivek Kumar Singh, former IAS officer and Chairman of RERA Bihar, was the Chief Guest. The ceremony was also graced by Dr. Jagmohan Sharma, Director of IGNFA, and distinguished figures from forestry and environmental institutions.

Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh’s sacrifice as a martyr in the fight for environmental conservation and social welfare is a testament to his life of devotion, courage, and integrity. His actions not only protected India’s forests but also improved the socio-economic conditions of the underprivileged, particularly the tribal and poor communities. The ceremony served as a reminder of his unwavering values and commitment to making a positive impact on society.

As expressed by Shri Vivek Kumar Singh, “Sanjay Kumar Singh’s life embodies the true spirit of public service—a life devoted to integrity, courage, and making a lasting difference in the lives of the nation’s people and environment.”

The legacy of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh will continue to inspire IFS officers, environmental professionals, and citizens to work tirelessly for the betterment of society and the protection of India’s natural resources.
